Japan has depended on this region for it security and prosperity in the post war era. And they see china as beginning to erode some of the values that it, as japan, has lived by. The quad is first and foremost in its mind these days, i think, in terms of how to make sure that the region an inues to move forward together. It's often in the news or the commentary these days that the quad is attempting to replace the asion, or the asioncentric multilateral institutions of the region.
