The Baret and the French Resistance Movements

In the 19 thirties, fashion designer cocochanel decided to turn it into a fashion icon for women. With the german occupation, it became one of the secret emblems of the french resistance. Yet as the baret became popular internationally, french people stopped wearing it. In the 19 sixties, the baret remained a symbol of resistance movements around the world, from chegavara to black panthers.
