The Art of Crime is a history podcast about the unlikely collisions between true crime and the arts. Each episode profiles an artist who has been linked to an assassination. The most infamous one is actor John Wilkes Booth, assassin of Abraham Lincoln. Southern Gothic will take you deep into the dark history and haunted lore of the American South.

Ranavalona I. went down in history rather ingloriously and bears the surname “the cruel”. Many Malagasy call her regency tany maizina, in English “years of darkness”. But despite this she is still a rather complex character. One who did amazing and terrible things at the same time. Let us tell her story today
