Climbing Plants Can Change Their Minds

Climbing plants can work out where to go and even change their minds, says Moni Chasterton. Scientists at the University of Padua in Italy set up an experiment using thin sticks and thick sticks. Sylvia Guera observed that the plants actually changed their behaviour depending on whether the stick is thick or thin. The fact that each plant absorbs red light and reflects far red light means that in a garden, each plant can sense the presence of other plants - invisible to us.
