The Importance of Being a Jew
When I was growing up, it was common to support Israel but there wasn't really a humanity of Palestinians. My journalistic career started in Sydney in 2003 and I started writing about Palestine shortly after that as a critical anti-Zionist Jew. Since then I've been visiting every three or four years, the West Bank and Gaza reporting from there. And yeah, I guess we can talk about the genesis of what the book is. But in short, I have come to a point now where as a Jew, I am routinely and regularly ashamed of what Israel is doing because it claims to speak in my name. For many, many Jews, Israel has become their religion. It's replaced religion
