The Myth of Mechanism
There's a great essay I remember reading years ago, a very brief essay, it's called the myth of mechanism. It pointed out that lots of things that we think we understand in medicine, we don't even understand. Like for example, how aspirin works. That wasn't understood on a chemical level until the 1970s. Now hypnosis actually has proved itself in the real world because with all the research studies done on psychotherapy,. if you had hypnosis of the psychotherapy, patients spend less time in psychotherapy and have a reduction in symptoms.
