Is There a Restitution Debate Going on in the US?
There has not been much focus on the Metropolitan Museum, at least not on this particular issue. I think their main battle of late has been with the Sackler name being all over their galleries. There are a lot of artifacts in American museums that those museums, directors, and leaders want to return but because of this sort of arcane system of federal and state recognition of Native American groups and tribes, they cannot actually be returned yet. So, there's certainly lots of work to do.
