Alexander Sanders went by the craft name of Ferbius, known as the king of the witches at one point in time. He was originally initiated into Gardenerian Wicca and eventually founded his own coven as a high priest. Gardner and Wicca are positively oriented and frequently avoid doing any kind of black or ill-intentioned magic. There's a lot of emphasis on the polarity of genders in Alexandria and Wiccan but also the Alexandria branch views everyone as a priest or priestess.
