AI and the Threat of Extinction
The New York Times published a story on Wednesday about scientists' warning that AI could one day pose an existential threat to humanity. The statement was released by the Center for AI Safety, which represents many of the leading theorists and engineers in the field. It said mitigating the risk of extinction from AI should be a global priority alongside other societal scale risks such as pandemics and nuclear war. This really does tell us something about humanity, about human nature, human thinking and human behavior says Peter Bergen.
