Is Energy Really Important to Consumers?
You talked earlier about how energy affects the economy, but it's not as big of an effect as central bank policy. To what extent do you think that the price of energy is the actual cause of the inflation that we're seeing? And to the extent that that is involved, doesn't that really give oil a bigger role in the economy than than we'd discussed earlier? Well, consumers talk. The share of the amt amount consumers have been spending on gasolene has been declining dramatically over the last 50 years,. So that right now it's not a huge number. It's two % or so.
