The Risks of a Landfill in an Earthquake?
Dr. Jones: What are the risks that we face when we face an earthquake living on landfill and how can we better protect ourselves? The California Geological Survey has a wonderful system of maps that show you the liquefaction risk and the, I don't know if you actually have amplification risk. There's a building that was just built in San Francisco for affordable housing where they made a commitment to do a functional recovery standard and it added 0.1% to the cost of the construction. If you've got a high risk and you own your house, get earthquake insurance.
