What Is the Math of the Universe?

Matthew asks, what is the math of the universe? Is it trigonometry, algebra, calculus, long division? It's really interesting to wonder which parts of math describe the universe. You can invent weird kinds of geometry surfaces that live in eight dimensions but the universe might not be eight dimensional. And then you get into weird things like, well, what does it mean to be real?
