The Egyptians did not export great quantities of salt but exported considerable amounts of salted food, especially fish to the Middle East. Sal also ended up shaping early trade routes. By the Middle Ages, caravans of 40,000 camels carried salt from Taodani to Timbuktu,. a 435 mile journey taking as long as one month. I would love to see a picture of that or that's something we can make in mid-journey or something.
