Athens and the Athenians
Athenians could not have relished the thought of losing this vital region, even to a much needed supporter. The europians enjoyed greater rights as boetians than as athenians. Auropus would henceforth hang like a cloud over the two states for the rest of the next century. Despite the moderate measures enacted by the restored democracy, it was a struggle for athens and their citizens to reconcile and rebuild.
