The Tory Party's Fall Into Every Trap
In 97, they didn't dare pledge many public spending increases because of the way the tax and spend debate is conducted by the British media. But by 2001, because the Tories had condemned Labor's very tight spending plans as utterly irresponsible and reckless, they could then frame a debate in 2001 about the threat of Tory spending cuts. And so the Tories fell into every trap. It looks as if they're going to do it again, that if Kierstammer is elected, his speech at the weekend confirmed he is almost imitating new labor with some important exceptions.
