The Monographic Illusion: Should Pilots Fly the Same Approach Again?

Pilots may not have known that the weather at French Valley Airport wasn't improving, it was actually getting worse. At one half mile visibility, the reported visibility was just barely half of the required 7.8 mile visibility for landing from this approach. Lying the missed approach to get into position to fly that second approach took about 15 minutes. It can't help but wonder whether these pilots mistook the roof of the biotech building for the white runway markings on the runway.
