The Strange Death of the Conservative Party

After 1997 the Conservative party was in deep crisis. But they were back in power within 18 months and have been ever since. The lack of a really intense, serious post-mortem causes big problems for a party. In some respects we are back to that kind of mid-90s period where it's easy to forget the intensity of the divisions within the Conservative parliamentary party over John Major's leadership.
