The Life and Times of Julie Burtchel
I got to know Julie Burtchel when I was still a student because the person who lived next door to me but one in Islington was Cosmo Landersman. She at that time had a burgeoning career in journalism and encouraged me to become a journalist as well. And we kind of fantasized me, Julie and Cosmo, about starting our own magazine. When I left Cambridge, I talked to them more seriously about it and said, look, why don't we actually set up a magazine? We called it low culture for eyebrows. The format was the same as the TLS, the London Review of Books.
