The Death of Alan Dermott

Henry Davenport became an incorporeal member of the society in 1743. A few days earlier, he had been killed on the field of battle. The surviving everlastings would meet each October and following their club's constitution would cancel the all-soles night feast. In 1766, a new disaster struck: Three of the remaining four corporeal everlastings passed away before October of that year. Charles Balesis retired to his room down a narrow corridor known at Cambridge as Cow Lane and made preparations for a feast.
