The Importance of Harmonized Standards in the AI Act

The idea is that for each of those requirements that need to be fulfilled by those high risk systems and we can maybe call them essential requirements. If you fulfill those standards then that comes with this so-called presumption of conformity. But one of the challenges at the moment is that those standards simply don't exist. We see a few standards being published already, we see many other standards in the pipeline or kind of on the horizon to be developed but we also see that developing standards is at a very time intensive process.
