Why Are We Investing So Much in a New Species?

People are pointing out that why should we be investing so much in a new species when indigenous species can play the same role of conserving the eco system? So for example, the wolf or the great indian bustard are species that are currently existing in the country. And there are already many carismatic species, highly endangered species in India. These are species that really need our attention.
