In 1999, a new MP3 player debuted with a much larger hard drive than its competitors. The Remote Solutions Personal Jukebox had 4.8 gigabytes of storage. It wasn't using solid state flash memory; it was using a repurposed laptop hard drive. That kept the price down, but it was still monstrously expensive.
