The Worst Example of Capitalism Meets Patriarchy

I was researching the surrogacy trade in India where a woman, an Indian woman, of course, illiterate, couldn't read the contract that she was required to sign. She'd been instructed to store what she could eat, what she could drink, that she couldn't smoke, she couldn't have sex with her husband and she gave birth. The so-called intended parents had written in the contract that they wanted to hold the baby before her. I thought how utterly callous and cruel and it just struck me as something that if that doesn't tell us that this is the worst example of capitalism meets patriarchy, I don't know what it is.
