Wax had come into celebrity interviewing from embedding with people on topics that were a sort of sensational or fringe. To her, celebrities were just another kind of person she was trying to connect with and understand. Of all the singers, actors, athletes, there was one particular kind of hunger for power that stood out to wax. She could feel herself shrinking away from it in her interviews. You know, you could see the despots coming.
