In the late seventeenth century, large numbers of people who left the church and became known as the old believers. It was illegal to be an old believer so many fled to siberia and to the farther reaches of the empire. Through all his encounters, the trials with enemies and the comforts of friends, gregory rasputon started to harness his idea of what it meant to be human. Eventually, his steps did return home. His daughter maria would later write that he had greatly aged.
