This story is more than three thousand, 500 years old. So it's very possible that some specific details may have been lost. Another possibility is that this story was written down by one at some point in time, probably several hundred years after it happened. Does this story reflect more the will of god, or the will of moses, or perhaps a later redactor, or a viewpoint of someone else? That's a possibility.
