The latest generation of advanced chips being produced in Taiwan are three nanometers. To give you a sense of how small that is, there were 25 million or 400,000 of them in one inch. A human hair is between 50,000 to 100,000 nanometers thick. So this is a highly capital intensive business. Building one can easily cost around $20 billion and take years to complete.
