Why Democracies Are Less Likely to Wage War Than Authoritarian States
There's a theory in international politics, caled th democratic peace, which argues that democracies rarely go to war with each other. This is heavily disputed and some people think it has nothing to do with democracy. Others argue that they are like particular features of democracy that make them less likely to go to war against each other. A new paper looks at this from a different angle - what do citizens in authoritarian states believe? It suggests that that might not be the explanation at work here.
