Norse colonized the isle of man in the irish sea and used it as a base for travel and trade among the british aisles. These colonists can be identified by their distinctive Norse grave goods. There may have been some intention again to transplant and cultivate a Norse society in this land but most of these scottish mainland colonies were ephemeral they didn't last long or gain power.
