The Tuskegee syphilis experiment started in 1932 and followed a group of African American sharecroppers. The plan is for this to be a long term experiment, but none of the men are ever told they have syphilis. 28 people die as a direct result of having syphilis during that time; 100 died from complications related to syphilis. 40 of the patient's wives get the disease while 19 children are born with congenital syphilis.
