Bionic limbs fail because bacteria colonize the area where the skin ivaginates. Bionics is the use of mechanical systems or devices to replace the function of organic systems, particularlyi the human body. In general, if you were ignored, sort of like just replacing amputated limbs, long john silver style, we really don't get into building what we would accept as something that looks vaguely bionic until the middle of the twentieth century.
