I would get my first client by offering whatever I'm doing for free. That is the assurance they want in the quality of product or service you offer. If I simply went to a marquee client, the big name in the industry and said, hey, I will provide my service to you at no cost in exchange for you for being a referral source for me. Now, every other client is so much easier to get  and I can come out hitting premiums.
