CNN's John Sutter takes a look at the impact of using teachers to improve education in Chicago. The city has lost manufacturing jobs and many families are fractured, making it hard for schools to make big changes. One school is now teaching parents when their children were three years old so that they can track them through high school. "We do a pretty good job pushing both cognitive test scores and executive function," says author Steve Kinsman.
Economist John List of the University of Chicago talks about his book, The Voltage Effect, with EconTalk host Russ Roberts. He discusses what determines scalability and argues that the only good ideas that count are those that scale. Along the way, he draws on his experiences as chief economist of Uber and Lyft to peer inside the black box of ride sharing.
