Sally Kohn was trained as an artistorian. She then became a kind of environmental historian at a time before the term "environmental history" It's not known exactly where she came from, but we know that she belongs to this ass of people who were affected by multiple invasions. And so she was a child slave sold sold into slavery. We do have sort of historical accounts of families selling their children. The boys end up in a military training and become soldiers or concubines.
