In a fasted state, typically you are going to use fuels that are available to the nurons based on your intake of food the day before. When well fed, meaning when blood glucose sugar is at a properly elevated level in the blood stream, it can be delivered to the brain in a way that allows nurons to work best. The take away from this study not that you should avoid fasting. But i think it's only fair to point out that glucose is the preferred source of fuel for the brain.
