The Importance of Reception in Meditation
Before the meditations, Descartes asked people to read it carefully. Five years later he's telling people don't read it. So what's happening here? My answer is that it has to do with reception. He became very unhappy with the way that the work was being received. It isn't even a series of exercises where you can only undertake the second one once you've done the first one and so on. The process has a unity.
