Lacan's Theory of Loss and Surplus

Lacanian theory is based on the idea of loss and surplus, supply and lack. Loss here can be designated simply by a minus sign. Surplus would also be like an early Latin symbol for etc. The drive would start in the field of surplus and work not by sublimation, but by de-sublimation such that the cause of desire, lack, would become the object of the drive.
