The Importance of Leaks in the War

Casey was a classic 1980s right wing war nerd. He probably listened to Huey Lewis in the news. It's like, he leaked these photos supposedly because the public should be aware of what was going on on the other side, meaning the Russians. Because if they did, they would increase the defense budget. But nevertheless, after he was convicted, then the press and the establishment got kind of weirded out by it. Like, wow. Now government leakers to the press can be convicted. And there were times when Casey was threatening different newspapers, editors, and journalists, including Seymour Hersh, with prison for going public with different stories.
