The Soviet Strategy in the 1920s
There were many different aims, but of course Lenin and then Stalin were guided by their reading of Marxism. And so they were trying to export the socialist or communist revolution worldwide. They saw the great imperial power of the time Britain as the inevitable Marxist enemy. So across multiple domains, across multiple fields, hoovering up and collecting as much scientific and technical secrets as possible. We can see from Soviet intelligence records smuggled to the West. This is not me saying something that is akin to a red scare. This is actually a specific policy on the part of the Soviet secret police.
