Cost as usual was a major factor both at the retail and manufacturing point. The average consumer just didn't care that much about enhanced audio and video especially at those prices. Beta had a very limited recording capacity and people gravitated toward VHS. For longer movies it might need two to three discs. If you're spending $4,500 it better switch the disc itself,. clean out the garage and then give you a foot rub.
