Walter Raleigh was friends with poet edmund spencer, and introduced him to queen elizabeth. The disputes that raleigh started having with robert devereux almost led them to a duel. And then there was the relationship that caused raleigh to fall out of the queen's favor almost for good. Walter and bess apologized to the queen after she found out they were secretly married and had a secret baby. But neither of them seemed all sincere about their apology, and that just made things worse.
