Are You Having an Arranged Marriage?
Lakshme says she is having an arranged marriage. Everyone in her extended family has had one. Lakhmi said dating and romance were fine when you were young, but that freedom of choice an love was an illusion. An arranged marriage meant that the husband was committing not to you personally, but to thousands of years of tradition - his whole family as well as yours. That took a lot of pressure off your looks, which wouldn't last forever and off the rest of you too.
