The cost of living has risen much faster than people's wages. People who can't afford to save up a 20 % down payment have no business buying a home. The only reason that mortgage lenders have been able to get away with five % down payments is becase the government still insures those loans. Wev got to getgovernment out of housing, just like we got to get government out of education and health care.
