Devin O'Brien: I think it's important to learn the dynamics of moral valuation that you just sketches out in the genealogy as a contrast between affirmative morality and negative morality. And what you'll see is that Nietzsche uses these different types of moral valuations in many different contexts to deconstruct and reconstruct many different kinds of moral ideals, he says. So trying to calibrate those forms of valuation with the presence rather than just imitating his own judgments is an important element of engaging with him here.
