Buckley verses the birchers was written before he became famous. Buckley's own rise to prominence is also happening as edgar smith becomes more prominent. He really legitimately thought that there was something amiss with how edgar was treated by the criminal justice system. And we can infer all the reasons why, i think donald cox, in the line that i quoted in the introduction of the book, essentially saying, we never thought that someone who could write so well could be a savage killer.
