Messiah Christ: A Translation of a Hebrew Word
Christ is obviously a translation of a Hebrew word. Would Messiah Christ have meant a lot to Gentile readers, or was this specifically to address a Jewish audience? I think Mark has written to address a Gentile audience, but you're right, it's a Jewish word. In the Old Testament, when a person was chosen to be the king of Israel, during the coronation ceremony, oil poured on his head.
