Alexandra Still is a professor at the Columbia Journalism School. Berlusconi made his first fortune in real estate and then quickly moved into television. There was no such thing as private TV before the mid-1970s. The Italian High Court had ruled that there could be private TV but on a limited basis purely on a local broadcast.
