The last man to be hanged in Gonzales was named Albert Howard and he was hanged on March 18th 1921. He was convicted of rape but right up until the instant of his death he claimed to be innocent. From his cell inside the jail he could see only two things. The gallows where he was doomed to die and through the windows behind the gallows he could see the couple of the courthouse where he had been convicted.
