The Commandant's House at the Brooklyn Navy Yard

The Commandant's House is the oldest surviving piece of architecture associated with the Navy Yard. It was built between 1805 and 1807 on Vinegar Hill, which overlooks the entire Navy Yard. The Commandant could go out onto his second-story balcony and see what was under way at the Navy yard.
