Abstinence of Killing From Killing
Buddhism's abstinence of killing from killing refers to volitional actions where there is an intention to take life. There are some situations where we inadvertently take life, and this is not considered breaking a precept. Later teachings go on and expand this understanding even further - the consequences of an act are also conditioned by the moral quality of the actor and the recipient of the act.
